Lent 2026

Lent is a season of prayer and preparation – traditionally a time when Christians across all traditions are invited to spend some time in reflection, prayer and learning. That is not so much to fill our heads with facts as to fill our hearts with an ever- deepening love and knowledge of God. The traditional disciplines of Lent suggest that is a time when we seek to renew our faith, to go deeper in our praying and spend quality time reading and reflecting on the great narratives of the Bible. This year for our Lent Course we are going to use a fantastic new resource produced by the Diocese which focusses on Matthew’s Gospel – the Gospel we are reading through most of 2026 on Sunday mornings. This is an opportunity for us to meet together through the weeks of Lent, and to go deeper both in our fellowship and in our knowledge and understanding of our faith. In future years, this approach will continue working through the Gospels of Mark, Luke and John.

Lent Courses

We will be running up to three groups each week of Lent, each using the same material on Matthew’s Gospel. It would be very helpful if you could show interest by signing up on the sheets at the back of church and indicating what time of day would work best for you. Everyone who signs up will receive a pocket edition of Matthews’s Gospel to use during the sessions and for your on-going study, prayer
and reflection
