Faculty, Finance & Funding
Planning permission within the Church is called a Faculty and is granted by the Chancellor of the Diocese who is a barrister.
We were granted ours recently and it is for the re-ordering of the interior of the Church.
However, just as everyone in their homes has to face rising costs of services like gas, electricity and telephone – so it is with Church. We have all the same costs and rises in the cost of living to face.
We receive no grants whatsoever – we are funded solely by giving.
We also have to pay an annual sum to the central funds of the Church. This goes towards pensions, stipends and general running costs of the diocese and the Church of England in general.
The day-to-day running of our Church finances is completely separate from any money given or raised for the re-ordering. At present, here at St. Thomas’, we struggle to make ends meet on the day-to-day expenditure each year.
So, when you see a fund raising event, it is to do with redecorating and refurbishing, and never to pay our day-to-day expenses.
On September 11 we are having the release of 1,000 balloons in the Great Balloon Race. These are to be sold in aid of the refurbishing of the Church. The event is to be held in the field alongside the lane that goes to Harrison’s Rocks. Parking is by kind permission of Sue & David Homewood in their lower field at Birchden. 12.00 until 3.00pm. We shall have food for your lunch, stalls and then the grand release of the balloons at 3.00pm
There is a competition going on. Through the school, the person who sells the most balloon tickets is invited to release the 1,000 small balloons. By the way, they are all bio-friendly and all the regulations have been checked and followed. You fill in the form in the Magazine and let us have it. We then give you a number for each balloon you buy so that your name and details never appear on the balloon tag.
This promises to be a great event and we have been given a Playstation 3 plus some games as a prize. Details are in this Magazine so please do support this.
Buy 5 Balloon tickets for £10 and we will give you an extra one free.
Return your forms and money to:
Mary Hunt, 4 Lealands Close
Colin Moore, 12 Oaklands Road
Fr Tony at the Vicarage or to Church when we are there.
