Holy Communion before Confirmation

The Church takes its obligations to protect Children and Vulnerable Adults very seriously and is  fully committed to implement and comply with all the policies and procedures required  by the Diocese.

In 2017 we moved from Year 6 Confirmations to what we are calling CCC (Children receiving Communion before Confirmation).  Our Bishop has a preference for Confirmation candidates to be aged 14 and above, so that it really is a serious decision that they are making.   This practice is now widely adopted across the broad spectrum of Anglican styles of worship.

This ‘in between’ stage acknowledges that children can have an active faith at a younger age, and a sense of wanting to belong more fully.    But it allows them to move onto Secondary School and adjust to teenage life, before coming to this more mature decision later on.

The preparation is not so full as it is for Confirmation, and usually takes place over four sessions. The advice is that the parents join in the preparation classes as well, so that the child feels supported and this is an extension of the idea of the promises made on behalf of a child at Baptism.
